For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

The Unexpected

I'm sure everyone knows how it goes. You make plans and think this is what God has for me to do or you have no plans and get surprised with what God has in store for you. This happened to me a little over 5 months ago. At the beginning of this year I was going to college part time and finishing up my GED testing. I was looking into becoming an Early Education Teacher and use my love and talent for art as a tool to teach. I loved going to college, the adventure of it and all the knowledge I was gaining. I thought, "Yeah this could work, I could use this knowledge not only for teaching other children, but one day my own as well". Yeah right. At the end of the semester God threw a big curveball , a big one, one I didn't see coming.  The curveball was the young man, who would very quickly become the Love of my life.  I am told that some of the best things in our lives are things that we never see coming. Now I truly understand that statement. I didn't see my courtship with my love, but I wouldn't change a thing. I have learned so much about him and myself and I have grown a lot in character as well. These last few months have flown by so fast and I have found myself head over heels in love with my best friend. I am now engaged to this very godly, very loving young man and I am very honored and blessed to call my Fiance. I am very excited to call him my husband in just a couple months.
God's plans are always way better than ours. He knows what we need, when we need it, and how to give us what we need. I am so blessed and so thankful for all that God has brought into my life. God knew that I needed my fiance and that he needed me. PRAISE GOD!!!!!

He definitely makes me laugh A LOT!! My wonderfully goofy nerd!

Inspirational People I Know

I am an introvert.  Its true, I don't like being in large groups of people. I quite enjoy being by myself. But there are those rare moments where I want to be around people. Yes, I said around people.  Of course this group is limited to a close few ( no more than 4-5 friends at a time). Yes, introverts can have friends too. They inspire and encourage me to do great art and to work hard for my goals.   I have been so blessed. I always come home from a visit with friends feeling blessed, encouraged, motivated, and inspired.  I love listening to their ideas. My brain goes into overdrive  during and after these visits. I pray that I am just as much as an encouragement to them as they are to me. I thank God every day for the relationships He has built.

,I really do appreciate people who stimulate my creativity and make me think on a deeper level.

Great Reads

I love to read! However, I don't often look for new books that have just come out. I love the classics. The books that are often forgot about. The look, feel and yes even smell of an old book are aspects I appreciate of them.  But every now and then I come across something new. Recently I found Austin Kleon's two books, Steal Like an Artist and Show Your Work. These are wonderful books. Now they're not stories, these books are filled with advice for all kinds of creatives. From creating great works to getting yourself known. Not only can they help you, but they tell you ways that you can help others as well. In Show Your Work, Mr. Kleon tells us to teach others what we know, what we have learned, and what we are learning now. As a private art teacher it is always nice to be reminded to keep teaching others. These books are inspiring and motivating.  I look forward to rereading them again and again, and recommend that you take a look at these books as well.

Brand New!!!!!........Aaaahhhh.......

I bought a brand new sketchbook today! No I don't have ten more still waiting to be filled. My idea keeper ( aka my sketchbook) that I have right now is almost full, about 15 pages left, sad. For me a new idea keeper is both motivating and scary. The very first page of white potential just waiting to be used and all I can do is sit there and stare at it. Really! Sure there is plenty of things to draw and I might have had an idea already forming in my head. But as soon as I open it up, the idea disappears, vanishes into thin air. I just sit there dumbfounded and paralyzed. Finally after getting a cup of coffee and a taking a few deep breaths I begin. Slowly and lightly at first, but gradually getting darker. Painstakingly a picture begins to forms before me.  Funny thing is I am not sure if it is just me, who experiences this random terror at the sight of the first blank page.  Does anyone else experience this? Please tell me its not just me? Even after the initial fleeting of ideas, the limitless possibilities excites me!

Artist Block

Artists have their ups and down just like everyone else.  We have days of mind blowing creativity and other days of “artist block” where nothing gets done. That’s just how it is. But what we do with those less creative days are what makes the other days so motivating. What should or can an artist do in these kinds of drought days? Oh the days of imaginative droughts! When these times appear they can last for a day or for several days, there’s really no way to know how long it will be. These are the days when we study. Yes, study. No I don't mean text books. I mean study the works of other artists, read great inspirational books, listen to music, go for long a walk, go to a new place and watch what happens, go visit someone, drink some tea or coffee (OH AND DON'T FORGET YOUR SKETCHBOOK).  The point is to do something to spark new ideas.
